Pyrenees - Ordesa

Walking holiday in the PyreneesWelcome to Hooked on Walking holidays and our walking holidays in Spain. This hiking vacation in Spain is in the Ordesa region of the Spanish Pyrenees. This region is pretty difficult to reach by public transport so we felt the region is so beautiful that it was a shame not to include it. For that reason we suggest you rent a car from a local airport and we have designed all the walks based around this idea. Each day we have options allowing the walks to be as challenging as you wish, there it is graded as a level 2-3 tour. The Ordesa & Monte Perdido National Park is one of the most impressive protected mountain areas of Europe, with high glacier valleys, deep canyons and large forests showing amazing colours in autumn. During this trip you will first discover the area around the village of Torla during several high and low walks, right through the valley of Ordesa or high up to the French border near Bujaruelo. Then you’ll drive to the southern part of the Park and spend two days at Nerín, walking up to and through the high summer pastures above the Añisclo Gorge. All the walks are well marked and easy to follow, and offer a real alpine hiking experience for people of all ages. Accommodation in good family hotels.

Available daily 15th June to the end of October
A Level 2-3 self guided walk

Day 1 Arrive to Torla
Arrival at a comfortable hotel in Torla, a lovely mountain village. This hotel has a private swimming pool, restaurant, bar and lounge.

Day 2 Various walks 7.5 miles 12km 300/300 up/down 4 hours or 5.6 miles 9km 1000/1000 up/down 6 hours
Short drive to the Mediaeval bridge at Bujaruelo. Here you can choose between a short walk of 3,5-4hours along a landrover track into the Otal valley or a real alpine hike of 5,5-6hours to a lake at the French border.

Day 3 Cola de Caballo waterfall 10-11 miles 16-17km 500 up/down or 700 up/down
Short drive to the entrance of the National Park. A classic day-walk to the Cola de Caballo waterfall at the end of the Ordesa canyon. First you climb 700m up to an amazing viewpoint and then you follow a narrow hunters’ path along the ridge of the canyon. Back along the track at the bottom of the valley (6 or 7 hrs).

Day 4 Various walks 2.2 miles 3.5km 230 up/down or 7.5 miles 12km 850m up/down
Today you can take a very beautiful hike through the quiet woods and summer pastures East of Torla (5,5-6hrs) or visit three authentic villages around Torla during an easy stroll along tracks (4hrs).

Day 5 Torla to Nerin 5 miles 8km 300m up/down
It is now the end of your stay in Torla. After a 40min drive to Nerín, you still have plenty of time to walk into the narrow Añisclo gorge. You can do this directly from the hotel, descending along an old footpath through the aromatic maquis, but do remember that you have to walk up again at the end of the day! (min 4hrs). You can also drive down to the beginning of the gorge and walk as far into it as you please.

Day 6 6.5 miles 10km 775m up/down
From Nerin you walk up to the Biñuales plateau where you can look far down into the Añisclo  gorge or extend the hike with the ascent of Pico Mondoto, a fantastic balcony over the entire National Park. (4 to 6,5 hours)

Day 7 Departure

Difficulty: Level 2 to 3: You can l choose from among 10 day-walks of 2 to 7 hours in length, and thus you can make this trip as easy or difficult as you wish.
