Welcome to Hooked on Walking Holiday and our walking holidays in Spain. This particular hiking vacation in Spain is in the Aragon region of the Spanish Pyrenees. The Sierra de Guara is one of the most depopulated regions of Spain, in which life seems to have come to a halt at some time in the past. Vast woodlands, endless plains, deep canyons, lovely vineyards and authentic villages like Alquézar, perched on a rocky cliff above the Río Vero Gorge. During this trip, you first discover the rich culture of the Somontano wine-producing region, then you explore open countryside in more remote areas. A pleasant walking holiday in which you travel on foot, from one welcoming family run hotel to the next.  You will experience charming ancient villages, hidden gems of Romanesque regional architecture, gently rolling Mediterranean countryside, where crystal clear rivers have hollowed deep canyons out of the sandstone, overnights in authentic Spanish villages in beautiful natural settings and delicious local Somontano wines.

Available daily March 1st - 15th July, 16th August - 30th October
Level 2-3 self guided tour

Day 1 Arrival in Alquézar
After arrival in Alquézar, you can make a short stroll through this medieval village with Romanesque Colegiata or walk into the gorge of the River Vero (2 miles, 3 km, 1 hour, 130m up).

Day 2 Circular walks from Alquézar
From Alquézar there are several options for circular walks. We strongly recommend the route to Asque, which includes splendid vista points of Alquézar and the canyons of the river Vero, beautiful natural scenery, medieval bridges and churches (7.5 miles, 12 km, 5 hours, 400m up).

Day 3 From Alquézar to Lecina

Day 4 From Lecina to Paules de Sastre
You walk further North and East through vast Mediterranean woods and extensive plains with breath taking views to your welcoming refuge in Paules de Sastre, with private swimming pool. Don’t forget to visit the medieval sanctuary Santa María de Nuez. ( 7.5 miles, 12 km, 5,5 hours, 600m up).

Day 5 From Paules to Rodellar
Today you have to cross several abandoned villages and the deep gorges of Otín and Mascún to reach your rural hostel in Rodellar, hidden away in the valley at the end of the road. (maximum 11.9 miles,  19 km, 7 hours and 765m up; transfer of  4.4 miles ,7 km possible to shorten the walk

Day 6 From Rodellar to Las Almunias
Relatively easy walk through the gorge of Balcez and up to the crest of the hills that divide Rodellar from Las Alumunias. Again splendid views and good chances to see birds of prey and vultures. ( 5.6 miles , 9 km, 650m up, 4.5 hours)

Day 7 From Las Almunias back to Alquézar
