Welcome to Hooked on Walking and our walking holidays in Majorca. This particular hiking vacation on Mallorca will take you across the wonderful mountain range of the Sierra de Tramuntana in the northwest of Majorca. The north west coast of Mallorca is a surprisingly beautiful and quiet area, separated from the popular ‘playas’ by a whimsical limestone mountain range, the Sierra de Tramuntana. During this trip you walk from one picturesque village to another, along coastal cliffs and idyllic beaches or right through the mountains, crossing vast private estates with orange, almond and olive trees. You stay in a family run hotels, two beautifully situated rural accommodations and one beach hotel.

Available daily 15th March to 15th December
Level 2-3 self guided tour

Day 1 Arrival at Valldemossa
Arrive to Valldemossa a short journey north of Palma . Vallademossa is built around a historical Carthusian monastery where residents proudly remember the year in which Frederique Chopin and George Sand lived in the town. Valldemossa is easily reached by public bus from Palma de Mallorca.

Day 2 Circular walk from Valldemossa
Today a wonderful A 5 hour walk along the horse-riding trail of Archduke Ludwig Salvador, a renowned ‘connaisseur’ of the island who spent his life investigating the geology and botany of Mallorca. During the walk you will enjoy magnificent views over the Mediterranean Sea. It is possible to extend the walk with an ascent to Es Teix peak at 1062m.

Day 3 Deía to Puerto Sóller
After a short transfer, you walk for 4,5 hours from the artist colony of Deía to the coastal town of  Puerto Sóller. You follow the coastline through quiet Mediterranean woods of pine, oak and madrone trees and then across a private estate where the owners serve delicious fresh orange juice.

Day 4 Sóller to Ballitx d’Avall
Today’s walk is rather short, only 3,5 hours, so there is plenty of time this morning to dive into the Mediterranean or buy Mallorquin delicacies in the old town centre of Sóller. The walk takes you through the hills to the isolated farm Ballitx d’Avall, located in a small valley covered in orange and olive trees. The oldest part of this farm is a 13th century tower, which villagers once used to hide from pirate attacks. This rural accommodation also has a terrace with swimming pool.

Day 5 Ballitx d’Avall
A day to rest by the swimming pool at Ballitx with a glass of fresh orange juice at hand. If you wish to keep active you can do a 4 hour walk along the desolate coastline to the beach and summer village Cala Tuent.

Day 6 From Ballitx to Orient
A rather strenuous walk or around 5 to 6 hours takes you right over the Serra de Tramuntana. You have to climb 800m up through a narrow gorge but the reward is a magnificent panoramic view. During the descent you cross private summer estates before you reach the rural accommodation at Orient, also with a private swimming pool.

Day 7 Circular walk from Orient
A short walk or 3.5 - 4 hours to the ruins of Alaró castle, located on a hilltop at 822m in the middle of a Mediterranean wood of oak and carob bean trees.

Day 8 Departure
The housekeeper will take you to the train station in Alaró so you can get a direct train to Palma de Mallorca.

Accommodation: you stay at farmhouse accommodations, welcoming family-run hotels and one comfortable beach hotel.  All rooms with en-suite bathrooms, except at the last accommodation where you may have to share a bathroom with other guests. The farmhouses have private swimming pool, sun terrace and gardens.

Valldemossa - Es Petit Hotel de Valldemossa
Es Petit Hotel is a comfortable hotel, near the centre of Valldemossa, at walking distance from the Carthusian monastery. The hotel has ample rooms with modern en-suite bathrooms, a cozy lounge and two sunny terraces. The best of the hotel are its owners, who have turned their home into a delightful guesthouse. Breakfast is a feast for the senses, especially when it is served on the terrace.
Port Soller - Hotel Los Geranios
Small hotel in a privileged setting near the beach.
Fornalutx - Balitx d'Avall

Surrounded by carob, olive and fruit trees, the Finca has 10 double rooms with bathrooms, a dining room and several terraces.
